The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Washington tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Washington somewhat.
Smith looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

and Washington counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Washington.
Washington wants to take the fight to the mat but Smith manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Washington breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Washington sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Washington shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Django Washington. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Washington has taken the fight to the clinch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
