Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Juan Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dante Gael Roman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dante Gael Roman!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez ducks under a wild hook from Roman.
Gonzalez ducks right into an uppercut from Roman.
Roman throws a jab when Gonzalez was well out of range.
We've been hearing reports that Gonzalez has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Roman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gonzalez to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Gonzalez is fighting to break Roman's control of his arms but Roman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Gonzalez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Roman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gonzalez has Roman in his guard.

I've been told that Roman has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.

Roman fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gonzalez.
Gonzalez goes for a double leg but Roman avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Roman continues to drive forward.

Roman tries to score a body lock takedown but Gonzalez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Roman will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Gonzalez up against the cage.

No joy there for Gonzalez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Roman is trying to pull guard but Gonzalez turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Gonzalez turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Gonzalez manages to end up in side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roman can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gonzalez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Roman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Roman. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Gonzalez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Roman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Roman has escaped and now he's on top!

Gonzalez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Roman defends it easily.

Gonzalez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Roman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Roman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That was a close second round but I would say that Juan Gonzalez will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Roman passes Gonzalez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Gonzalez closes the distance and clinches up with Roman, looking for a takedown. Gonzalez pushes Roman against the cage but Roman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We're going to have a standup here because Juan Gonzalez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
Roman cracks Gonzalez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Roman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gonzalez is looking to escape.
