The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stanton looking to score a takedown here. Penn is defending well but Stanton drives through and ends up in Penn's guard.
Stanton won't allow Penn to get back to his feet.
Penn can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stanton controls the pace.
Penn is looking to stand up but Stanton isn't so interested in that idea.
Penn looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Stanton puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Stanton keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Stanton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Penn for as long as he can get away with.
Penn is looking to escape.

Stanton seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Penn is trying to push Stanton away but Stanton has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Penn tries to circle away but Stanton has him pinned against the cage.
Penn jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stanton walks away with a smile on his face. Penn gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Stanton shoots in and gets a takedown into Penn's guard.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stanton can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Penn wants to stand and escape but Stanton is having none of it.
Penn looks winded!
Stanton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Stanton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Dominique Stanton has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stanton is defended easily by Penn.
Stanton tries for a takedown but Penn sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dominique Stanton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stanton takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

It looks like Dominique Stanton has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stanton shoots in and bounces Penn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Whack! Penn lands a heavy head kick that drops Stanton. The ref tackles Penn to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Stanton was done.

A very excited looking BJ Penn rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
