PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Woodward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremiah Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maxwell Woodward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeremiah Walker!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woodward tries to clinch up but Walker circles away and keeps his distance.

Walker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Walker showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Walker looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Walker trying to control from Woodward's half guard. Woodward has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Woodward is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Woodward could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Walker is looking for a sweep. Woodward is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Walker is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Woodward looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Walker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Walker keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Woodward passes into side control, despite Walker's attempt to control the position.
Woodward trying to control the position but Walker is working away.
Walker is looking for a sweep.
Woodward wants to control but Walker is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Walker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Walker looks to move to half guard but instead Woodward has passed into mount! Damn!

Woodward is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Woodward trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Woodward is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Walker to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Walker shrugs it off.

Woodward is working for a guillotine from mount but Walker frees his head quite easily.
Woodward has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Poor strikes thrown by Woodward there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Walker wants to control but Woodward is having none of it.

Woodward is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Walker to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Walker shrugs it off.
Walker tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walker tries to lock up and control but Woodward gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Woodward dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Woodward tries for a takedown but Walker circles away easily

and Walker counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Woodward is on top in guard.

Woodward is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Walker wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Woodward dives into side control.

Walker is working to avoid the ground and pound but Woodward connects with a decent elbow.
Woodward throws an elbow but Walker slips to the side and avoids it well.
Walker tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Walker avoids a series of strikes thrown by Woodward.
Woodward with shots to the head and body - Walker looks very uncomfortable down there.
Walker is looking to improve his position but Woodward isn't that keen on the idea.
Walker keeps trying to improve his position.
Woodward avoids the attempt from Walker to control.

Woodward is looking to stand but Woodward has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Walker is looking to improve his position but Woodward isn't that keen on the idea.

Woodward looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Woodward looking to control but Walker is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Walker squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Woodward lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Walker is trying to escape the mount.
Woodward lands with some strikes.
Maxwell Woodward overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Walker is trying desperately to improve position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Walker is squirming around, avoiding Woodward's attempts to control the action.
Walker is trying to escape the mount.
Woodward with shots to the head and body - Walker looks very uncomfortable down there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Walker can do anything to dispel that myth.
Walker is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Woodward working away from the top, dropping strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
BOOM! Woodward connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Woodward avoids the attempt from Walker to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Woodward dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Walker forces Woodward back against the cage and clinches.

Woodward pulls Walker into guard.
Walker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Woodward looking to hit a scissor sweep but Walker is one step ahead there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Woodward is on top in guard.
Woodward distracts Walker with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Walker tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Walker controls Woodward momentarily but Woodward frees himself.

Woodward drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Woodward jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Woodward avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Woodward throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Walker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Woodward slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Walker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Woodward throwing strikes but missing.

Woodward avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Woodward lands a couple of elbows.
Woodward wants to get up but he can't break Walker's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Woodward postures up and lands a big shot to Walker's brow.

Walker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Woodward doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Woodward manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Woodward thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Walker wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Woodward is now in half guard.
Woodward throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Woodward is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Walker doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Woodward.
Walker scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Woodward manages to mount him!
Walker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Woodward connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Woodward has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Walker's face.

Woodward get's back to his feet.

Woodward pushes Walker up against the cage in a clinch.

Woodward jumps guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Walker drops back, looking for a kneebar! Woodward looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Woodward looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Woodward!
Walker is looking for a sweep.

And that's the end of the fight!
Maxwell Woodward showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Woodward has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
