PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ray Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teo Christofi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zero's entrance music is Fozzy's "Shine Forever". A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Zero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Teo Christofi!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zero shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Christofi defends it nicely.
Horrible takedown by Zero or perhaps it was just good defense by Christofi which made him look bad.
Zero shoots in looking for a takedown. Christofi tries to sprawl out of it but Zero keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Christofi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Zero. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Christofi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zero as he avoids it easily.
Zero tries to score a power double leg takedown but Christofi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Zero somewhat.

Zero drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Christofi has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Christofi throws a right hand that Zero ducks under and follows up with a left that Zero also avoids with ease.

Zero closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Christofi quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Christofi tries to get to full guard but Zero has control of the leg.
Christofi is refusing to be controlled, as Zero sits in half guard.

Zero is working for a submission of some sort.
Zero is looking to take a break and control but Christofi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Christofi wants to get back to his feet.
Zero takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zero is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Christofi defends it well.

Zero is working for a submission of some sort.

Zero is trying to control. Christofi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Zero wants to free his trapped foot but Christofi is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Zero is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Zero is working for a kimura but Christofi is defending it quite comfortably.
Zero is keen to just control but Christofi is a slippery customer.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Zero shoots for a double leg takedown but Christofi sprawls well. He's pushed Zero's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Christofi slaps away a takedown attempt from Zero, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Zero shoots in for a double leg but Christofi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Zero dives in and grabs Christofi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Christofi pushes down on Zero's head and hops out.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Zero manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Zero jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Christofi walks away with a smile on his face. Zero gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Christofi stands and steps away. Zero gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Christofi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Zero circles away quickly and effectively.

Zero is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Well Christofi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
