PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jeffery Mejia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Isaiah Kingman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kingman has chosen Mama said knock you out as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeffery Mejia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Isaiah Kingman!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kingman instigates a clinch.
Kingman is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Mejia is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kingman can't fight it off and eventually Mejia manages to take the fight to the floor. Kingman looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mejia has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kingman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mejia's guard.
Kingman is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mejia is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kingman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mejia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kingman defends well.

Kingman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mejia is trying to get back to full guard.
Mejia is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kingman prevents Mejia from improving his position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Isaiah Kingman wasn't active enough on the ground.

Mejia gets a double leg takedown into Kingman's guard.
Kingman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Kingman uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Kingman feints and as Mejia raises his hands in defense, Kingman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kingman passes Mejia's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

It looks like Kingman might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Mejia is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kingman pulls his head out easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Isaiah Kingman was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Kingman is looking to control Mejia's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kingman avoid being mounted?
Kingman is doing well to control the position and prevent Mejia from advancing to side control.

Mejia moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Kingman.
The ground and pound from Mejia seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Kingman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mejia off and has taken his back!

Kingman just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Let's hope that Kingman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mejia is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kingman gets his way!

Mejia is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kingman.

Kingman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mejia, up you get!

Mejia is looking to break free of the clinch but Kingman has double underhooks.
Mejia is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kingman is on top in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kingman misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kingman is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Mejia's shoulder. That is not cool.
Kingman tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kingman controls the position from side control.

Isaiah Kingman has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Kingman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kingman lands in his opponent's guard.
Kingman advances to half guard.

Kingman is trying to work for a kimura but Mejia is defending well.
Mejia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Isaiah Kingman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kingman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
