Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Geeves Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abednego Smiff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armstrong's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Kickstart My Heart. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Geeves Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Abednego Smiff!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armstrong misses with a lunging right hand

and Smiff counters with a nice double leg into side control. Armstrong won't be happy with that.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Armstrong is working to avoid the ground and pound but Smiff connects with a decent elbow.
Armstrong stuck in half guard on the bottom here.
Armstrong is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smiff looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Armstrong gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Armstrong is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at TAP ROOT -/- 10 Coaches / Great Sparring / Value that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Armstrong can't escape the position.

Smiff throws some wild stikes that Armstrong manages to avoid easily.
Smiff is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Smiff is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Armstrong has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Armstrong!
Armstrong looking to sit in guard and control but Smiff gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Armstrong controls Smiff momentarily but Smiff frees himself.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Smiff working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smiff is stalling in the full guard.
Smiff postures up in Armstrong's guard and throws a big left but Armstrong blocks it.
Smiff connects with a couple of short punches.
Smiff loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Smiff working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smiff advances position into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Armstrong is trying to control Smiff's posture but Smiff avoids it.

Smiff is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Armstrong has escaped the position, nice work there.
Smiff tries to move into full mount but can't pass Armstrong's legs.
Armstrong is trying to get back to half guard.
The ground and pound from Smiff seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smiff misses with the ground and pound.
Armstrong tries to buck Smiff off but Smiff is having none of it.
Smiff throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Smiff throws an elbow but Armstrong slips to the side and avoids it well.
Armstrong is trying to get back to half guard.
Armstrong is working hard here to advance position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smiff wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Armstrong, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abednego Smiff dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Armstrong throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A swing and a miss from Armstrong.

Smiff looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Armstrong wants to sweep here but Smiff controlling him for the moment.
Smiff stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Armstrong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smiff is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smiff tries to free his leg and advance position but Armstrong is retaining full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smiff accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smiff wants to pass the guard but Armstrong is keeping the position.
Smiff wants to control from the top but Armstrong keeps moving.
Armstrong has momentary wrist control but Smiff slips an elbow through the middle.
Armstrong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Armstrong trying to keep a closed guard but Smiff is proving a slippery customer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smiff lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Armstrong keeping full guard, as Smiff tries to pass.
Smiff passes into half guard.
Smiff throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smiff looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smiff moves nicely into side control.

Smiff has hold of Armstrong's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Armstrong seems comfortable defending it but Smiff has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Armstrong is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Armstrong is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Smiff couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Abednego Smiff!
