PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dirty Randy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Randy comes to the cage accompanied by Machinehead. Thomas has chosen a violent reaction as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dirty Randy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas is looking to clinch but Randy is avoiding it.
Randy avoids the head kick by Thomas.
Thomas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Randy defends well and Thomas ends up having to push Randy into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Randy goes for a takedown in the clinch but Thomas prevents it.

Thomas drags the fight down to the ground.
Randy stopping the sweep attempt from Thomas.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Thomas manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Thomas looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Randy is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Randy jumps guard but Thomas turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dirty Randy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thomas creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Randy's defenses.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dirty Randy wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Thomas shoots for a double leg takedown but Randy sprawls well. He's pushed Thomas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Thomas closes the distance and clinches up with Randy, looking for a takedown. Thomas pushes Randy against the cage but Randy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Thomas has Randy pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Thomas pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Randy tumbling to the mat - Thomas dives into Randy's guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Thomas shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Randy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Thomas gets to his feet. Randy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Thomas moves into the clinch.
Randy has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Thomas after a bit of a struggle.
Thomas is pressed up against the cage. Randy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thomas down to the mat. Thomas avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Thomas misses with a few strikes there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Randy uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Thomas.
Randy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Thomas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Thomas dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Randy looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Thomas wants to take the fight to the mat but Randy manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Thomas gets control of Randy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Thomas will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Randy shoots in for a takedown but Thomas shows good takedown defense.
Randy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thomas tries to avoid it but Randy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thomas to the ground. Thomas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Thomas shoots for a takedown but Randy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Thomas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Randy moves away.
Thomas misses with a jab, cross combination.
Randy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Thomas but Thomas pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Randy manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Thomas on his heels. He'll look to pass Thomas's guard now, I'm sure.

Randy stays in close to Thomas's body and controls the position.
Thomas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Randy is controlling him.

Randy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Horrible takedown by Randy or perhaps it was just good defense by Thomas which made him look bad.

Thomas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Randy is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Randy gets caught napping as Thomas dives in and scores a takedown. Randy manages to retain guard.

Thomas wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Randy's closed guard. He's half up but Randy has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Randy pivots and extends the arm, Thomas falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Randy! Well done that man!
