PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Master Kush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Avery Slone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Master Kush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Avery Slone!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kush tries to keep at a distance but Slone has taken the fight into the clinch.
Slone throws an elbow but it misses.
Slone tries to land a knee to the head but Kush blocks with his arms.
Slone tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Kush tries to break the clinch but Slone is controlling the position.
Slone is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kush is defending well for now.
Slone lands an elbow inside that Kush shrugs off.
A frustrated look appears on Kush's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kush is trying to break the clinch but Slone has him pressed against the cage.
Slone tries to land a knee to the head but Kush blocks with his arms.
Slone has Kush pressed against the cage, preventing Kush from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Kush escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kush throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Slone counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Slone counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Slone using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Kush has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Kush wants to get back to striking at distance but Slone won't allow it.

Kush tries to circle away but Slone has him pinned against the cage.

Slone lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Kush is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Kush's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kush is trying to force a seperation but Slone has the dominant position.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Slone creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
A nice right hand lands inside from Slone.
Slone scores with a shoulder strike.

Slone looking to throw knees to the head but Kush is blocking nicely.
Slone misses with a knee to the head.
Slone pushes Kush back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Slone has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. So far he's outscoring his opponent in the clinch so it seems to have been worthwhile.
Kush wants to break the clinch but can't.
Slone looking to throw knees to the head but Kush is blocking nicely.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Slone just misses with a elbow thrown towards Kush's brow.

Kush breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kush swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Slone counters with a takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kush is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Slone is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Kush tries to reverse the position but Slone maintains control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slone is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Slone sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Slone wants to get back to his feet but Kush is holding on tight.

Kush manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Slone with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Avery Slone was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Kush throws a combination that misses

and Slone counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kush won't be happy with that.
Kush tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Slone counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kush doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Slone slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Slone has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Kush has a closed guard, preventing Slone from standing up.
Kush seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Avery Slone hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Slone shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Slone was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Slone wants to stand but Kush has his arm trapped.
Kush throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Kush is pushing Slone's head away, looking to escape. Slone manages to hold on to the position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Slone wants to stand but Kush has his arm trapped.
Kush is looking for a sweep.
Kush is looking to get back to his feet here but Slone is keeping cool and he's managed to take Kush's back.
Avery Slone has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kush is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Slone.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kush tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Slone blocks Kush's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Avery Slone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kush is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Slone dives into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Slone stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Kush throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

Kush is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Slone digs a right hand underneath Kush's ribcage. Kush let out a lung full of air as it connected.

and Slone decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kush's guard.

Kush has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Slone is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kush.

Slone tries to stand but Kush is controlling his head.
Master Kush has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kush is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Slone has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Slone wants to stand but Kush has his arm trapped.
Kush pushes Slone away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Slone gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Kush throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Avery Slone is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Slone tries to stand but Kush is controlling his head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Avery Slone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Slone winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
