Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chris Hartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Enrique Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Hartman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Enrique Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz with a lazy takedown attempt
and Hartman counters with a left and a right that stings Ruiz.

Hartman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ruiz wants to control but Hartman is keeping busy.
Ruiz is looking to improve his position.

Hartman decides to return to a standing position.
Ruiz falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hartman counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Hartman clinches up with Ruiz and pushes him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hartman gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Hartman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ruiz tries to roll over but Hartman keeps him under control.

Ruiz wants to get back to full guard but Hartman has passed into side control.

Hartman stands up and beckons Ruiz to his feet.
Hartman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ruiz misses with a takedown attempt - Hartman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hartman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ruiz is trying to defend but Hartman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Hartman is controlling the pace.
Ruiz wants to improve his position but Hartman is controlling well.

Hartman decides to return to a standing position.

Hartman fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ruiz to the ground. Hartman is now in Ruiz's guard.

Hartman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hartman is stalling in the full guard.
Ruiz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hartman stays in close to Ruiz's body and controls the position.

Ruiz looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hartman has picked Ruiz up and slammed him! Ruiz can't keep hold of the triangle and Hartman manages to pass to side control!

Hartman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

and Hartman counters with a takedown into side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hartman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ruiz can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Hartman looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hartman misses with a head shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Hartman dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ruiz shoots in for a double leg but Hartman sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hartman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ruiz moves away.
Ruiz tries to clinch up.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ruiz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hartman tries to avoid it but Ruiz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hartman to the ground. Hartman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Chris Hartman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Enrique Ruiz.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ruiz enables Hartman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ruiz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Hartman passes Ruiz's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Hartman is taking a breather. Ruiz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Hartman decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Hartman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hartman moves into the clinch.
Ruiz jumps guard but Hartman stands there with Ruiz around his waist. Ruiz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hartman is pressed up against the cage. Ruiz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hartman down to the mat. Hartman avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Ruiz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hartman circles away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Hartman has hold of one of Ruiz's legs. Ruiz is fighting the takedown attempt but Hartman gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Hartman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ruiz for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chris Hartman.

Ruiz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hartman avoids it really well and circles away.

Hartman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ruiz to the mat! Ruiz manages to get full guard.
Ruiz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Hartman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ruiz was covering up waiting for the punch and Hartman finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ruiz has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hartman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ruiz.

Ruiz is looking to regain half guard here but Hartman keeps moving and retains side control.
Ruiz keeps trying to improve his position.
Hartman is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Ruiz will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Ruiz is trying to get back to half guard.
Ruiz looks to move to half guard but instead Hartman has passed into mount! Damn!
Ruiz is trying to reverse the position but instead Hartman has taken his back - oops!
Ruiz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
I really don't envy Ruiz right now.

Hartman punches the canvas rather than the man.

Ruiz defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Hartman's arms.
Hartman has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Ruiz's body.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hartman is persistently looking for the submission but Ruiz is defending it well.
I really don't envy Ruiz right now.
Ruiz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Hartman is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Ruiz defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Chris Hartman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ruiz is really stuck here.

Well Hartman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
