PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between LJ Tibbs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erick Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that LJ Tibbs has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily LJ Tibbs seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, LJ Tibbs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erick Wright!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tibbs clinches with his opponent.

Tibbs drags the fight down to the ground.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tibbs manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wright manages to get himself to full guard.

Tibbs decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Tibbs shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wright is trying to defend but Tibbs finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Tibbs seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wright for as long as he can get away with.

We're going to have a standup here because LJ Tibbs wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Tibbs closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wright to the mat! Wright manages to get full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tibbs is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because LJ Tibbs just wasn't active enough.

Tibbs throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wright was covering up waiting for the punch and Tibbs finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Wright should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Wright is looking for a triangle but Tibbs pushes his legs off easily.
Tibbs is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of LJ Tibbs.

Tibbs moves into range and clinches up with Wright.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tibbs pulls guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

LJ Tibbs dominated that round.
That's time! Tibbs's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Tibbs wants the takedown. Wright is fighting it off but Tibbs persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Wright's guard against the cage.
Tibbs wants to pass the guard but Wright is keeping the position.

LJ Tibbs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tibbs keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wright's head.
Tibbs slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wright is breathing heavily.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Tibbs passes into half guard.

Tibbs seems to be working for a kimura but Wright defends the submission attempt.
Well, if Tibbs is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Tibbs gets the takedown into side control.

Tibbs cracks Wright with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Tibbs is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of LJ Tibbs.

Tibbs has closed the distance and engaged Wright in a clinch.

Tibbs breaks the clinch.
Wright tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tibbs swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tibbs rushes Wright and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Wright has a couple of punches blocked by Tibbs.
Wright drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tibbs gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Tibbs is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Wright is defending well.

Tibbs has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Wright clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Tibbs sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Wright taps out!
