Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Fertus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Leer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leer misses with a lunging right hand

and Fertus counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Fertus.

Leer gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Leer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fertus does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Leer has Fertus pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fertus manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Leer shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fertus as he jumps to the side.

Leer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fertus tries to avoid it but Leer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fertus to the ground. Fertus escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Fertus manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Leer is looking to control Fertus's arms but Fertus gets an underhook and turns him. Now Leer has his back to the cage.
Fertus will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Leer up against the cage.

Fertus keeps the fight on the outside.
Leer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Leer shoots in for a takedown but Fertus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Leer on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Fertus. Fertus obviously looking to wear him down.
Leer is breathing heavily.

Fertus fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Leer, pushing him back against the cage.
Fertus is pressed up against the cage. Leer has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Fertus down to the mat. Fertus avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Fertus counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Fertus connects with a body shot that sends Leer's belly button to the back.
Leer gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fertus darts in and clinches Leer up against the cage.
Leer prevents Fertus from breaking the clinch.

Fertus's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Leer shoots in looking for a takedown. Fertus tries to sprawl out of it but Leer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fertus manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Leer leaves his chin hanging out and Fertus seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Leer crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!
