PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lars Fightmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tiago Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Trap Door. Tiago Mendez will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lars Fightmann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Tiago Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fightmann ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendez moves away.

Fightmann shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Fightmann seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Mendez throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Mendez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fightmann trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mendez wants to stand but Fightmann is controlling the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Fightmann fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mendez sprawls well initially but Fightmann persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Fightmann is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mendez pulls Fightmann in close to his closed guard and prevents Fightmann from doing any damage or advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fightmann drops back looking for a leg! Mendez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mendez manages to kick Fightmann off! Fightmann jumps back into Mendez's guard.

Mendez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fightmann controls the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Fightmann shoots in but no luck this time.

Fightmann closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Fightmann has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Fightmann wants to take his opponent's back but Mendez doesn't allow it.
Mendez tries to hold on but Fightmann postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mendez is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Fightmann is staying active.
Fightmann can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mendez is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Fightmann had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mendez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Fightmann Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mendez's back instead.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Fightmann shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mendez's guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fightmann, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
