PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mary Barron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quincey Ballard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mary Barron has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mary Barron seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mary Barron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Quincey Ballard!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barron tries to clinch but Ballard moves away

and Ballard moves into the clinch.

Ballard pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ballard pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Ballard counters with a nice leg kick.
Ballard misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ballard fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Ballard drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ballard is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barron knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ballard advances to full mount.

Ballard is trying to control. Barron wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Ballard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Barron, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ballard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barron's guard.

Quincey Ballard dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ballard lands a nice leg kick that just misses Barron's sensitive parts.

and Barron counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ballard thinking.
Barron takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Ballard tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Barron manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ballard stuns Barron with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Mary Barron is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Barron is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Ballard looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ballard forces Barron back against the cage and clinches.

Ballard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Barron tries to bum rush Ballard with a series of wild strikes but Ballard uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Barron slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Barron changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ballard tries to avoid it but Barron manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ballard to the ground. Ballard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ballard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ballard will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ballard tries to clinch up but Barron circles away and keeps his distance.
Ballard has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Barron shoots in for a takedown but Ballard shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Barron dives in and grabs Ballard's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ballard pushes down on Barron's head and hops out.
Ballard ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Barron gets underhooks to prevent Ballard's takedown attempt.

Barron pulls guard successfully.
Ballard looking to sit in guard and control but Barron gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quincey Ballard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Barron's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Ballard fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Barron looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Ballard fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ballard dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Barron. That did some damage!

Ballard stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ballard wants it to stay on the feet.

Ballard shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Barron napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ballard content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Barron is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ballard connects with a decent elbow.
Ballard is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Barron's shoulder. That is not cool.

Ballard decides to stand back up. Ballard steps back and let's Barron get back to his feet.

Ballard throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barron was covering up waiting for the punch and Ballard finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ballard is stalling in the full guard.
Ballard trying to stand up but can't free himself from Barron's guard.
Ballard's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Barron had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ballard defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ballard stands and throws Barron's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Ballard scores with a couple of short elbows.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Ballard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Quincey Ballard has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ballard moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Ballard stands up and beckons Barron to his feet.

Ballard closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ballard lands in his opponent's guard.
Ballard is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ballard wants to stand but Barron is controlling his posture from full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Quincey Ballard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ballard has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
