PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Herbert Hernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mika Tervala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mika Tervala told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Herbert Hernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mika Tervala!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tervala fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hernandez, pushing him back against the cage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Tervala as Hernandez tries to tie him up.

Tervala manages to break the clinch.
Tervala throws a head kick that misses.
No joy there for Tervala, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mika Tervala seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hernandez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Tervala makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Hernandez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tervala can pounce on him.
Hernandez shoots and misses
and Tervala counters with a right hand to the body.
No joy there for Tervala, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Tervala shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hernandez's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tervala throws a big elbow that misses.
Tervala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hernandez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tervala not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Tervala must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mika Tervala.
Tervala lands with a nice body kick.
Hernandez avoids the head kick by Tervala.
Tervala tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tervala fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Hernandez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hernandez crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Tervala - the referee stops the clock and Hernandez gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Tervala. Hernandez manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Hernandez is breathing heavily.
Hernandez takes a kick to the side of the head.

It looks like Herbert Hernandez has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hernandez dodges the punch combination from Tervala.

Tervala clinches.

Tervala's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Crunch! Tervala slams his shin into Hernandez's torso.
Tervala tries to bum rush Hernandez with a series of wild strikes but Hernandez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hernandez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tervala.
A left and a right from Tervala both land. Nice combination.
Hernandez falls off balance throwing a combination
and Tervala counters with a nice kick to the body.
Tervala fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Hernandez on the side of the head.

Hernandez is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tervala comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Tervala lands with a big left! Hernandez is wobbled badly! Tervala comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Hernandez to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mika Tervala!
