PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Nichols (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Condit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeff Nichols!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Antonio Condit!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nichols throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nichols closes the distance and pushes Condit back into the cage.

Nichols manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Condit looking to sit in guard and control but Nichols gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Nichols prevents Condit from getting back to his feet.
Condit really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nichols. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Condit looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Nichols has picked Condit up and slammed him! Condit can't keep hold of the triangle and Nichols manages to pass to side control!
Condit is trying to improve his position.
Nichols takes a little break here. Condit wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Nichols landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Condit is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Nichols is controlling him well.
Nichols could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Nichols is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Condit will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Condit takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nichols taking a breather here.
Nichols's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Nichols throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Condit is being controlled here.
Condit is looking to regain half guard here but Nichols keeps moving and retains side control.
Nichols slows the pace down.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jeff Nichols wasn't doing enough on the ground.
A telegraphed right hand from Nichols misses the target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Condit misses with the combination.

Condit gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Nichols's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Condit looking for a sweep. Not yet Condit, not yet.
Condit looks winded!
Condit is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Nichols dives into side control.
Nichols working the ground and pound from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Condit is being controlled here.

Nichols is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Condit is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Condit gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nichols wants to stand but Condit is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nichols in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Nichols content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Nichols dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Nichols closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Nichols.

Nichols lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Nichols performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Jeff Nichols overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Nichols is looking for a kimura here.
Condit is in trouble now - Nichols has advanced to mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nichols scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Nichols is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Condit can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Nichols quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Nichols but it's paid off an Condit is forced to tap! Nice work by Nichols.
