Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Laid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fred Collins!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laid misses with a takedown attempt
and Collins cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Collins moves into range and connects with a jab.


It looks like Mike Laid has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Collins lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Laid backs up against the cage.
Collins swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Laid shoots and misses
and Collins counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Collins cracks Laid with a right hand to the side of the head.
Laid shoots for a double leg takedown but Collins sprawls well. He's pushed Laid's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Laid. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Laid has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Collins finds it's way round the side to connect with Laid's head.
Laid shoots in for a takedown but Collins shows good takedown defense.

Collins catches Laid napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Laid to the canvas!

Laid avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Laid is on top in guard.
Laid throwing strikes but missing.
Laid has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Laid postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Collins is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Laid, into his guard.
Laid is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Laid has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Laid thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Laid is trying to work for a kimura but Collins is defending well.

Laid is looking for a kimura but Collins is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Laid to get the leverage.
Collins wants to get back to his feet.

Laid is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Collins sees it coming and defends easily.
Laid missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Laid connects with a nice short shot to Collins's temple.

Laid is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Collins is just riding it out for now. Laid eventually gives up the hold.

Laid is trying to work for a kimura but Collins is defending well.

Collins keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Laid not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Laid looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Laid is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Collins defends it well.
Collins tries to kick Laid off in order to stand up. Laid Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Laid takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Laid shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Collins counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Laid shoots for a takedown but Collins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Collins has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Laid with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Collins to score with a decent uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Laid darts in looking for a takedown but Collins gets double underhooks and turns Laid into the cage.
Collins lands with a left to the head.
Collins lands a left hand that snaps the head of Laid backwards.
Collins tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Collins breaks the clinch.
Collins dips to his left and cracks Laid with an uppercut!
Laid has a takedown stuffed.
Collins fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Laid to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Laid looks to clinch but Collins throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Laid taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Fred Collins!
In his post fight interview, Fred Collins started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
