PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eddy Bowman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddy Bowman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Evans!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bowman is fending him off so far but Evans persists. Nope, Bowman circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown by Evans or perhaps it was just good defense by Bowman which made him look bad.

Bowman drives through with a takedown into Evans's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Bowman wants to pass the guard but Evans is keeping the position.
Evans tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Evans has Bowman pulled in close to control his posture.
Evans keeping moving, preventing Bowman from controlling successfully.
Bowman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Evans is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Eddy Bowman has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Evans instigates a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Evans manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Evans breaks the clinch.
Bowman throws a head kick that misses.

Bowman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Evans gets back to half guard.
Evans is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bowman tries to pass to full mount but Evans defends it.
Evans is trying to maintain the position but Bowman is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bowman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Evans really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bowman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bowman wants to stand up but Evans is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bowman content to control rather than advance.

Evans looking for submissions off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Evans is refusing to be controlled, as Bowman sits in half guard.
Evans wants to get back to full guard but Bowman has mounted him!
Bowman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bowman throws a sloppy strike and Evans uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Evans has ended up in Bowman's guard.
Bowman looking to control but Evans passes into half guard.
Bowman wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bowman moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Evans is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Evans trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Bowman manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Evans shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Evans takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Evans trying to pass the guard but Bowman defending well.
Evans thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Evans is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Evans trying to control but Bowman is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bowman lands some strikes from the bottom.
Evans wants to get up but he can't break Bowman's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Evans wants to pass the guard but Bowman is keeping the position.
Bowman trying to keep a closed guard but Evans is proving a slippery customer.
Bowman has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Eddy Bowman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Evans decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bowman, up you get!

Bowman takes the fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Evans goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bowman prevents it.
Bowman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Bowman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Evans shoots in and drives through. Bowman sprawls well.
Evans is breathing heavily.
Bowman looks to score with a jab to the body but Evans is just out of range.
Evans tries to land a front kick but Bowman steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Evans fails with the takedown.
Eddy Bowman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Evans.
Bowman swats away the attempt to clinch by Evans.
Bowman tries to bum rush Evans with a series of wild strikes but Evans uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bowman tries to clinch up.
Bowman wants to land a leg kick but Evans is out of range.
Bowman throws a sloppy head kick and Evans moves out of range easily.
Evans darts in looking for a takedown but Bowman gets double underhooks and turns Evans into the cage.
Evans can't get the takedown.
Bowman wants to take the fight to the mat but Evans manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Bowman has clasped his hands together around Evans's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Evans tries to bench press Bowman off him but Bowman keeps the position.

Bowman is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Evans is trying to escape and Bowman transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Evans is forced to tap! Nice work there by Bowman! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Eddy Bowman!
