PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liberius Beowulf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis comes into the arena with Coldplay - Clocks blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Beowulf is on top in guard.
Beowulf sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Beowulf stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Davis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Beowulf is one step ahead there.
Davis has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Beowulf slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Davis is letting Beowulf control him for a moment.
Davis avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Beowulf.

Davis is looking to regain half guard here but Beowulf keeps moving and retains side control.
Beowulf wants to stand but Davis has his arm trapped.
Beowulf tries to advance to mount but can't.
A lull in the action here as Beowulf stalls from top position.
Beowulf is looking to take a break and control but Davis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Liberius Beowulf hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Davis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Davis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Beowulf smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davis fails with the takedown.
Beowulf connects with an inside leg kick.
Beowulf lands with a nice body kick.
Davis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Beowulf is fending him off so far but Davis persists. Nope, Beowulf circles away and we're back to standing.

Beowulf sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Davis's guard.
Oh Davis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Beowulf passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Davis!

Davis takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Davis is squirming around, avoiding Beowulf's attempts to control the action.

Beowulf trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Beowulf avoids the attempt from Davis to control.
Beowulf tries to control but Davis wriggling away.
Davis is desperately trying to improve his position but Beowulf has a good base and remains in mount.
Beowulf throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Davis because Beowulf loaded up on that one.
Davis tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Liberius Beowulf dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Beowulf lands a nice looking body kick.
Beowulf lands a leg kick that knocks Davis off balance momentarily.
Davis throws a jab when Beowulf was well out of range.
Davis fails with a takedown attempt.
Davis gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Beowulf.

Davis has managed to clinch.
Davis is looking to take this one to the mat.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Beowulf breaks the clinch.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Beowulf jabs Davis right on the nose. Davis blinks but takes it well.
Beowulf has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Beowulf throws a nice outside leg kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Davis sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Beowulf lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Beowulf. Davis shrugs it off though.
Beowulf throws a good cross that connects.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Liberius Beowulf seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Beowulf cracks Davis with an open hand slap.
Beowulf drops Davis with a naaaaasty hook - Davis is in real trouble here! Beowulf dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

A determined Liberius Beowulf didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
