PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Rudabaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carls Classic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tommy Rudabaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carls Classic!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Classic fails with a takedown attempt.

Rudabaker shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Rudabaker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Classic does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Rudabaker seems to be working for a kimura but Classic defends the submission attempt.
Rudabaker tries to pass to full mount but Classic defends it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rudabaker in particular looking to stall.
Rudabaker is keen to just control but Classic is a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Classic wants to get back to his feet.
Rudabaker is thwarting Classic's attempts to control the position.
Classic wants to get back to full guard.
Classic is trying to control but can't.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rudabaker feints a jab promting Classic to slip. Rudabaker then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Classic slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Rudabaker misses with a body punch
and Classic counters with a nice body shot.

Rudabaker gets a double leg takedown into Classic's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Classic holds on and takes a little breather.
Classic looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rudabaker is one step ahead there.
Classic is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rudabaker makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rudabaker.
Classic looking to sit in guard and control but Rudabaker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rudabaker postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Classic is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rudabaker, into his guard.
Rudabaker is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Classic wants to control from the top but Rudabaker keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Classic accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Classic stops Rudabaker from standing up.
Rudabaker is trying to keep Classic in close.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Classic trying to control but Rudabaker is working from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rudabaker fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Classic to the ground. Rudabaker is now in Classic's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Classic looking for a sweep. Not yet Classic, not yet.
Rudabaker postures up.

Rudabaker is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Classic is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Classic has escaped and now he's on top!
Classic is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Classic trying to control but Rudabaker is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy Rudabaker dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Rudabaker shoots in and bounces Classic off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Classic is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rudabaker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rudabaker is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Classic bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rudabaker's guard.
Rudabaker working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Classic.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rudabaker holds on and takes a little breather.
Classic advances to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Classic is keen to just control but Rudabaker is a slippery customer.
Rudabaker trying to control but Classic postures up.
Rudabaker on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Classic lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Classic wants to take a breather but Rudabaker is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rudabaker preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Classic not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Classic prevents Rudabaker from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Classic scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Classic throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rudabaker wants to get back to full guard but Classic has passed into side control.
Classic cracks Rudabaker with a big elbow.
Rudabaker is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Classic in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Classic wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rudabaker keeps working.
Classic cracks Rudabaker with a big elbow.
Rudabaker gets back to half guard.
Classic thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Classic is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Classic sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rudabaker defending well though.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Carls Classic wasn't active enough on the ground.
Classic throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rudabaker.

Classic gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rudabaker to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Classic has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rudabaker controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Carls Classic has got the better of the ground game so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rudabaker prevents Classic from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carls Classic showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Classic looks to land a body kick but Rudabaker moved away.
Classic fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rudabaker avoids it really well and circles away.
Classic scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Rudabaker tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Classic paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A lazy left from Classic finds it's target.

Classic changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rudabaker looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Rudabaker is looking for a sweep.
Classic lands some shots froms side control.
Classic trying to control the position but Rudabaker is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Classic looks up at the clock and then as Rudabaker takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Classic smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Rudabaker struggling a bit here.
Rudabaker is not content to let Classic control the position.
Rudabaker wants to get back to his feet but Classic drags him back down.
Classic wants to control for a moment but Rudabaker uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Rudabaker manages to get to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Classic is in close to Rudabaker's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Rudabaker looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Classic passes into half guard.
Classic tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rudabaker knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Classic is looking to take a break and control but Rudabaker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Classic slips a nice elbow through Rudabaker's hands, connecting with Rudabaker's forehead.
Classic wants to take a breather but Rudabaker is having none of it.
Rudabaker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Classic on the ground.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Classic passes the guard and advances to mount!
Classic raining down shots from the mount!
Classic tries to control but Rudabaker wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rudabaker is trying to escape the mount.
Classic working Rudabaker over with strikes here.
Classic pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Classic with shots to the head and body - Rudabaker looks very uncomfortable down there.
Classic scoring with strikes but Rudabaker is staying in there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Classic lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Classic landing punches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Carls Classic comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Classic has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
