The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orvel has his takedown stuffed
and Mellis counters with a shoot takedown. Orvel fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Mellis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Orvel working for a triangle but Mellis defends it easily.
Orvel has momentary wrist control but Mellis slips an elbow through the middle.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mellis has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Orvel to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mellis is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Orvel pulls down on the head and he's put Mellis to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Steve Orvel!
After the fight, Steve Orvel was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
