PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gregorio Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Combero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnny Combero will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gregorio Reese!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Combero!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Chad Campbell and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reese takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Reese wants to clinch up but Combero keeps it at a distance.
Combero lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Combero misses with a wild body shot.
Reese dives in and grabs Combero's left leg, looking for a takedown. Combero pushes down on Reese's head and hops out.

Combero closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Reese quickly recovers to half guard.
Reese moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Combero won't allow Reese to sweep him here.

Reese really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Reese is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Reese has his foot on Combero's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Combero works his way back into a safe position though.

Reese escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Combero gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Reese has control of Combero's left arm, preventing Combero from doing any damage.
Reese bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Combero's guard.

Combero throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Reese escapes and throws Combero's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Combero is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Reese is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Reese seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Combero for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Combero really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Reese tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Reese will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Combero is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Reese is looking to stand but Reese has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Reese keeps control of the position easily here as Combero tries to buck him off.
Reese's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Reese working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Combero is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Reese has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Combero taps out!
