PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Columbus Clay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Multanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as John Multanen enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Columbus Clay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Multanen!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Multanen fails with the takedown

and Clay counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Clay content to stall in guard here.

Clay is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Columbus Clay just wasn't active enough.
Horrible takedown by Multanen or perhaps it was just good defense by Clay which made him look bad.

Clay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Multanen connects with a right hand. Clay shakes it off.
Clay really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Multanen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Clay pinned against the cage. Clay gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Clay shoots in and drives through. Multanen sprawls well.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Multanen enables Clay to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Multanen manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Clay will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Multanen tries to close the distance and clinch but Clay swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Oh Clay is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Clay stuffs the takedown attempt from Multanen. Multanen gets slowly back to his feet.
Multanen lets loose with a powerful body kick. Clay will feel that in the morning.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

John Multanen has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Multanen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Clay as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Multanen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Multanen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Multanen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Multanen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Multanen is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Clay rather than just go for the knockout.
Clay throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Columbus Clay overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Multanen wants to get back to his feet but Clay is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Clay postures up and lands a big shot to Multanen's brow.
Clay throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Multanen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Clay stands and steps away. Multanen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Clay in particular looking to stall.
Clay has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Clay seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Multanen shoots in looking for a takedown. Clay tries to sprawl out of it but Multanen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Clay manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

And that's the end of the fight!
Columbus Clay showed his dominance in that final round.
