Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darnell Shepard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Wrestler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darnell Shepard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Wrestler!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wrestler tries to clinch up but Shepard circles away and keeps his distance.
Shepard stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shepard wants it to stay on the feet.
No joy there for Wrestler, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Shepard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wrestler's guard.
Wrestler is trying to control the position but Shepard postures up.

Wrestler is looking for a triangle but Shepard pushes his legs off easily.

Shepard seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Wrestler working for submissions but it's allowed Shepard to get to half guard.
Wrestler is trying to control but can't.
Shepard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Wrestler wants to get back to striking at distance but Shepard won't allow it.
Wrestler gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Shepard.
Wrestler keeps control of Shepard as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Wrestler jumps guard but Shepard turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Wrestler is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Shepard to keep the fight standing.

Shepard's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Shepard wants to get up but he can't break Wrestler's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Darnell Shepard.

Shepard breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wrestler shoots in looking for a takedown but Shepard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wrestler's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Shepard moves into range and connects with a jab.
Shepard shoots in for a double leg but Wrestler sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Wrestler gets the takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shepard gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Wrestler seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shepard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shepard is looking for a sweep. Wrestler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wrestler passes into side control, despite Shepard's attempt to control the position.

Wrestler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wrestler tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shepard swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Wrestler is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Shepard asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Shepard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
You can see the frustration on Wrestler's face as Shepard controls the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wrestler can do anything to dispel that myth.
Shepard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wrestler keeps working.
You can see the frustration on Wrestler's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Shepard wants to stand but Wrestler has his arm trapped.
Wrestler is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Shepard is looking to take a break and control but Wrestler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shepard stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Wrestler tries to keep at a distance but Shepard has taken the fight into the clinch.
Wrestler jumps guard but Shepard turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Shepard darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Shepard tries to clinch up but Wrestler circles away and keeps his distance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
