PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brayden Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Maul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee comes to the cage accompanied by In The Morning. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brayden Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Maul!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lee has managed to clinch.
Maul misses with a hook from the clinch.

Maul breaks from the clinch.
Maul dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lee wants to clinch but Maul slips to the side
and Maul counters with a nice uppercut.

Lee closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Lee is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Maul managing to block the knees to the body from Lee.

Maul manages to break the clinch.

Lee closes the distance and pushes Maul back into the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Maul's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Maul takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Lee moves forwards but Maul connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lee looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Maul moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lee. Maul does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lee takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maul throws a shot from downtown. Lee moves away and avoids it.
Lee tries to clinch but Maul moves out of range.

Lee closes the distance and pushes Maul back into the cage.
Maul has Lee pushed against the cage.
Nice elbow from Lee.
Lee misses with an elbow over the top.
Lee gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Lee tries to stall but Maul uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Maul is looking to control Lee's arms but Lee gets an underhook and turns him. Now Maul has his back to the cage.
Lee is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Maul lands a body shot in the clinch.
Maul avoids the elbow strike from Lee, against the cage.
Maul is pushing Lee up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maul blocks a body shot from Lee.
Lee has a couple of punches blocked by Maul.
Maul takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Paul Maul has been cut.
Lee lands an elbow inside that Maul shrugs off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maul breaks the clinch.
Lee doesn't manage to clinch there - Maul circles away.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch but Maul swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lee swings for the body but Maul moves out of range.
Lee looks to score with a jab to the body but Maul is just out of range.
Maul throws a hook but Lee blocks it.
Lee walks into a left hand.
Lee keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Lee tests Maul's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Lee tries to clinch but Maul moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheers as Maul lands an impressive looking overhand right. Lee doesn't seem phased though.
Maul throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Lee wants to clinch up but Maul keeps it at a distance.

Lee closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Lee keeps control of Maul as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Maul blocking some punches.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Maul misses with a body punch.
Lee fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Lee throws a head punch that misses.
Lee scores with a nice hook to the head.
Maul misses with a hook to the ribs.
A nice left hand lands by Lee.
Lee pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lee doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Lee looking to slow down the pace here.
Maul blocks an uppercut.
Maul takes a knee right on the jaw!
Lee throws an elbow but it's blocked.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lee's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Maul lands a left hand.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Maul lands a body punch.
Lee keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Maul's efforts to push away.
Lee stalling in the clinch but Maul improves position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brayden Lee will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Paul Maul's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Lee throws a head kick but Maul moves out of range.
Maul avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Maul displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lee throws out the jab.
Lee uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Maul.

Lee clinches up with Maul and pushes him back against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Lee.
Lee lands an elbow that stopped Maul in his tracks for a moment.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Lee just misses with a elbow thrown towards Maul's brow.
Lee with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Lee throws a punch but it's blocked by Maul.
Maul working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Maul dodges an elbow strike from Lee.
Maul scores with a hook to the body.

Maul's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Maul misses with a few strikes there.
Lee is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Maul bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Maul moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Lee misses with a wild body shot.

Maul gets a clinch.
Lee tries to land a knee to the head but Maul blocks with his arms.
Maul lands a hook that snaps the head of Lee backwards.
Lee is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Maul is defending well for now.
Maul lands a right hand that snaps the head of Lee backwards.
Lee using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Maul has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Lee pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Maul tries to stall but Lee uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Lee's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Come on Maul - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Lee is pushing Maul up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Maul tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Lee lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lee tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Lee misses with a punch to the body.
Maul blocks an elbow strike.
Maul avoiding damage as Lee throws knees to the body.

Maul manages to break the clinch.

Maul gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Maul lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Maul slowing the pace effectively.
With the fighters up against the cage, Lee throws an elbow but misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Maul pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lee tries to clinch up but Maul circles away and keeps his distance.
Lee is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Maul misses with an uppercut.
Maul's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Maul duly obliges.
Maul works the jab nicely.
Lee scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Lee rushes Maul and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Maul lands a shot to the body.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Lee.
Brayden Lee has scored more points in the clinch so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lee landing knees to the head.
Maul lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Lee lands an elbow that stopped Maul in his tracks for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Maul lands with a light punch inside.
A short left from Maul.
A short right from Maul.

Maul breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Maul looks to land a combination but Lee avoids it well.
Maul wants to clinch.
Paul Maul seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Lee moves to clinch but Maul breaks away
and Maul counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Maul finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Lee throws a looping overhand right but Maul ducks down to avoid it.

Maul lands a left and a right that send Lee crashing to the mat, dazed. Maul thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Lee is rocked!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
and Maul counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Lee! He's just covering up as Maul starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Maul!
