Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roosevelt Hensley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clay Firkus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clay Firkus will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roosevelt Hensley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clay Firkus!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Firkus tries to keep at a distance but Hensley has taken the fight into the clinch.
Firkus is looking for a takedown.
Firkus jumps guard but Hensley stands there with Firkus around his waist. Firkus gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hensley is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hensley gets underhooks to prevent Firkus's takedown attempt.
Roosevelt Hensley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clay Firkus.
Firkus has Hensley pressed against the cage, preventing Hensley from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hensley taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Firkus tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Firkus has Hensley pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hensley manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Hensley's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Firkus drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hensley is trying to break free.
Firkus with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Hensley has had enough of the clinch but Firkus keeps him there for the moment.
Firkus is trying to pull guard but Hensley turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Firkus throws a big right hand that misses.
Hensley on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hensley tries to get out of the position.
Hensley has control of Firkus's left arm, preventing Firkus from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hensley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Firkus being controlled here momentarily.
Hensley has a closed guard, preventing Firkus from standing up.
Hensley lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Firkus!

Firkus manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Firkus wants to control but Hensley is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Firkus might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hensley haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Hensley takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Firkus is trying to stand.
Firkus tries to roll over but Hensley keeps him under control.
Firkus looks winded!

Hensley is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Firkus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hensley works his way into side control.

Hensley has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Firkus throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hensley pushes Firkus up against the cage in a clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hensley goes for a takedown in the clinch but Firkus prevents it.
Firkus wants a takedown but no success here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roosevelt Hensley dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Firkus is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hensley just misses with a punch to the body.

Hensley darts in and clinches Firkus up against the cage.
Hensley is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Firkus is defending well.
Firkus drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hensley gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hensley prevents a takedown attempt there.

Firkus is trying to stand back up but Hensley is controlling him

Firkus has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Hensley is on him like a limpet, forcing Firkus back against the cage.

Hensley jumps guard and drags Firkus to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Firkus must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Firkus won't allow Hensley to get back to his feet.

Hensley is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Firkus is aware though and is defending well.

Hensley wants to get back to his feet but Firkus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hensley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Firkus's guard.

Firkus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hensley seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Firkus is trying to stand up here but Hensley is controlling him well.

Hensley's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Roosevelt Hensley has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Hensley looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Hensley shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Firkus's guard.

Firkus wants to control but Hensley is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Firkus tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hensley thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Firkus is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hensley has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Hensley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Firkus is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hensley connects with a decent elbow.
Firkus is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Firkus wants to control but Hensley postures up.

Hensley lands a nice forearm strike.
Hensley moves into full mount!

Hensley takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Firkus has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Clay Firkus has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Roosevelt Hensley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Roosevelt Hensley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hensley just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Well Hensley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
