PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sideshow Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazuri Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sakuraba scores with a takedown into Bob's guard.

Sakuraba is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Bob working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sakuraba doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sakuraba manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Sakuraba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bob is pulling down on Sakuraba's head. It's preventing any offense from Sakuraba, at least for the moment.

Sakuraba is tying to control. Bob wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sakuraba takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

and Sakuraba counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sakuraba.

Sakuraba breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bob misses with a jab, cross combination.

Sakuraba clinches up against the cage.
Bob is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Bob drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sakuraba gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Sakuraba is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bob can't fight it off and eventually Sakuraba manages to take the fight to the floor. Bob looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bob wants to control but Sakuraba passes easily into half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Sakuraba counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sideshow Bob. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sakuraba wants to control from the top but Bob keeps moving.
Sakuraba might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bob kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Bob pushes Sakuraba off and gets back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bob gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kazuri Sakuraba dominated that round.
That's time! Bob's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Bob looks to land a combination. Sakuraba sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Bob throws a nice looking combination but Sakuraba bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Sakuraba looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bob with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Bob is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Sakuraba rolls with it to try and escape but Bob cranks on the arm and Sakuraba is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
