PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bubz Phatz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mos Def (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Def has chosen Mathematics as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 5 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Bubz Phatz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mos Def!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Def moves away from the strike by Phatz.
Phatz throws a series of punches but Def avoids them all with ease.
Def moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Def connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A head kick misses from Def.
Phatz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Def lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Phatz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Phatz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Def lands a nice leg kick that just misses Phatz's sensitive parts.
Def tries to clinch but Phatz moves out of range.
Def keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Def fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Def throws a nice inside leg kick.
A punch lands to the side of Def 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Def pulls out of a head kick attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Phatz checks the leg kick nicely there.
Def pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Def misses with a low kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Def lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Def misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Phatz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Def darts in and clinches Phatz up against the cage.
Def tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Phatz has had enough of the clinch but Def keeps him there for the moment.

Phatz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Def tries for a takedown but Phatz circles away easily
and Phatz counters with an outside leg kick.
Mos Def seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Def getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Def tries to clinch but Phatz moves out of range.
Def shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Phatz counters with a head kick that drops Def!
Bubz Phatz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mos Def.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Phatz stays in close to Def's body and controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Def is trying to keep Phatz in close.
Phatz looking to pass the guard.
Phatz tries to stand but Def is controlling from the bottom.
Def is pulling down on Phatz's head to control his posture.
Phatz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

We're going to have a standup here because Bubz Phatz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Phatz throws a right and a left that Def avoids nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A clash of legs there as Phatz blocks the low kick.
Def throws a solid leg kick but Phatz takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Def.
Phatz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Def closes this distance looking for a takedown but Phatz circles away.
Sloppy strikes from Phatz. Those never looked like landing.
Def tries to clinch up but Phatz circles away and keeps his distance.
Def is looking to clinch but Phatz is avoiding it.

Def has Phatz up against the cage in a clinch.
Phatz is pressed up against the cage. Def has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Phatz down to the mat. Phatz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Phatz scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Def with a poor takedown
and Phatz counters with a left and a right... And another left! Def is down! He's done! The ref dives in to save him and that's the end of the fight!
