PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boris Pitts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Leo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Boris Pitts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jim Leo!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Leo.

Leo drives through with a takedown into Pitts's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Pitts looking to control.
Leo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pitts. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pitts keeping moving, preventing Leo from controlling successfully.
Leo postures up.
Leo wants to control from the top but Pitts keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jim Leo.
Leo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pitts manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Leo fails with the takedown.

Leo fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pitts to the ground. Leo is now in Pitts's guard.

Leo postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Pitts wants to stand and escape but Leo is having none of it.

Pitts working for a triangle but Leo defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pitts wants to sweep here but Leo controlling him for the moment.
Leo stays in close to Pitts's body and controls the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Leo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Pitts had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Leo defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pitts not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Leo sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Pitts keeping moving, preventing Leo from controlling successfully.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Jim Leo has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Leo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pitts struggling a bit here.

Leo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pitts has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pitts struggling a bit here.

Leo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Pitts is not content to let Leo control the position.
Leo tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pitts manages to get back to half guard.
Leo wants to control but Pitts is keeping him busy.
Leo controlling the pace.

Pitts looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Leo wants to pass the guard but Pitts is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Leo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pitts avoids the head kick by Leo.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pitts enables Leo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pitts manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Leo wants to stand and escape but instead Pitts has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Pitts decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Leo, up you get!
Leo moves in looking to clinch but Pitts pushes him off.
Pitts checks a leg kick.

Leo clinches with his opponent.
Leo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pitts walks away with a smile on his face. Leo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Leo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pitts napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Leo wants to control but Pitts is keeping him busy.
Pitts wants to control but Leo postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pitts is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Leo is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Pitts tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Leo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pitts wants to get back to his feet.

Leo swings around for an armbar but Pitts sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Leo's guard.
Leo is breathing heavily.
Leo trying to keep a closed guard but Pitts is proving a slippery customer.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Leo wants to control but Pitts passes easily into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pitts controlling the action here.
Pitts scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Leo. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Ground and pound from Pitts.
Leo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pitts is looking to take a break and control but Leo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jim Leo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Leo is trying to control but Pitts passes into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leo is trying to get back to half guard.
A control attempt from Leo but he's now mounted!
Pitts trying to control but Leo is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Leo wants to control but Pitts is having none of it.

Leo tries to improve his position but Pitts has taken his back! Pitts has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Leo tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Pitts pushes Leo away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Boris Pitts!
