PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between George White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Pablo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pablo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: smoke the fire. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Pablo!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pablo drives through and clinches with White against the cage.
White is trying to pull guard but Pablo has him pressed against the cage.

Pablo jumps into guard, dragging White to the mat.
White might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Pablo has his foot on White's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. White works his way back into a safe position though.

Pablo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but White can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

White wants to control from the top but Pablo keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pablo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pablo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Pablo seems to be looking for submissions.

Pablo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. White defends it easily.
White wants to control from the top but Pablo keeps moving.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


White shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pablo as he avoids it easily.
White tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pablo swivels and escapes.
Horrible takedown by Pablo or perhaps it was just good defense by White which made him look bad.
White shoots for a double leg takedown but Pablo sprawls well. He's pushed White's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George White. That's going to take a lot out of him.

White is trying to pull guard but Pablo has him pressed against the cage.

White won't allow Pablo to pass to mount.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Pablo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, White has managed to free his arm - good work.
Pablo moves nicely into side control.
Pablo throws an elbow but White slips to the side and avoids it well.

Pablo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pablo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Pablo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but White is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Pablo wants to control but White is keeping him busy.

Pablo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control White haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Juan Pablo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and Pablo counters with an inside leg kick.
Pablo is trying hard to land a takedown here. White sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from White enables Pablo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. White manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Pablo got a little sloppy there for a moment and White has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pablo has managed to get both his arms back between White's legs - danger averted.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Pablo throws a big elbow that misses.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Juan Pablo wasn't active enough on the ground.
Pablo lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.


It looks like George White has been cut.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pablo.

Pablo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so White is just riding it out for now. Pablo eventually gives up the hold.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pablo is stalling here. White is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pablo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and White has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

And that's the end of the fight!
Juan Pablo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pablo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
