Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tyrone Bate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns has chosen Speech Cobras as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brad Burns!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bate.
Some bone on bone action there as Bate checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Bate thows a left - swing and a miss!

Burns looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

We've been hearing reports that Bate has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Burns lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bate comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bate shoots for a double leg takedown but Burns sprawls well. He's pushed Bate's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bate throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burns's waist but Burns gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bate off to one side.

Burns is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Burns really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bate. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bate might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Bate slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Bate shoots in looking for a takedown. Burns tries to sprawl out of it but Bate keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Burns manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Burns can do anything to dispel that myth.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tyrone Bate.

A very excited looking Tyrone Bate rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
