PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Justus Sheehan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lazarus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sheehan comes into the arena with Under the Dome blaring out of the sound system. Jones is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Enter Sandman - Metallica. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justus Sheehan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lazarus Jones!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a poor cross that misses
and Jones takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Sheehan waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Jones.
Sheehan lands a lovely overhand right.

and Sheehan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Sheehan takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Jones throws a jab but it's blocked by Sheehan.

Lazarus Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones throws a low kick, looking for Sheehan's leg but Sheehan calmly moves out of range.

Jones throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sheehan stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jones looks for the body kick but Sheehan saw that one coming.

Jones fails with the takedown.
Sheehan ducks right into an uppercut from Jones.
Jones bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Jones keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sheehan connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jones. Jones circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Jones bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Jones throws a low kick but it's checked well by Sheehan.
Sheehan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sheehan somewhat.
A left and a right from Sheehan both land. Nice combination.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Sheehan is looking for a kimura but Jones is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sheehan to get the leverage.

Sheehan drops back looking for a leg! Jones is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jones manages to kick Sheehan off! Sheehan jumps back into Jones's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sheehan jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justus Sheehan dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jones cracks Sheehan with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Sheehan crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Jones - the referee stops the clock and Sheehan gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Jones. Sheehan manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Sheehan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Justus Sheehan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

and Sheehan counters with a series of strikes. Jones will be more careful next time no doubt.

Sheehan throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jones on the side of the head.

Sheehan swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jones.

Sheehan darts in looking for a takedown but Jones gets double underhooks and turns Sheehan into the cage.
Lazarus Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
I was talking to Sheehan's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Sheehan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones lands an uppercut.

Jones lands a jab.
Sheehan doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Jones counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Sheehan is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Good leg kick by Jones there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
That kick from Jones tenderised Sheehan's leg. Sheehan is trying to keep his angry face on.
Jones throws a shot from downtown. Sheehan moves away and avoids it.
Jones misses with an uppercut. Sheehan saw that one coming.

Sheehan shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Sheehan, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Sheehan against the cage but Sheehan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Sheehan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Sheehan finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sheehan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sheehan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sheehan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Justus Sheehan.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sheehan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
