PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Gifford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). George Gifford will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Gifford!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown misses with a straight left.
The crowd cheers as Gifford lands an impressive looking overhand right. Brown doesn't seem phased though.
Gifford throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Gifford scores with the left hand. Brown knows he should have avoided that one.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Brown.
Brown shoots in but Gifford avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Brown with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gifford to score with a decent uppercut.
Brown dives in for a single leg takedown but Gifford sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Brown breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gifford wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gifford scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Brown with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gifford to score with a decent uppercut.
Brown shoots in for a takedown but Gifford shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brown shoots in but Gifford avoids the takedown attempt easily.
No luck for Brown with that takedown attempt.
Gifford lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gifford's waist but Gifford gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brown feints and as Gifford raises his hands in defense, Brown changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Brown might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gifford wants to get back to his feet but Brown is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Brown drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Brown as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Gifford screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Brown! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). James Brown!
