PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maynard Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Janssens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Janssens's choice of entrance music: I'm Evil. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Maynard Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jan Janssens!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coleman clinches with his opponent.
Coleman fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Coleman is trying to break free.

Janssens manages to break the clinch.
Coleman throws a body kick that misses.
Coleman slaps away a takedown attempt from Janssens, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Coleman closes the distance and clinches.

Coleman manages to pull guard.
Coleman wants to stand and escape but Janssens is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coleman pulls Janssens in to control the position.
Coleman looking for a sweep. Not yet Coleman, not yet.
Coleman wants to stand up but Janssens is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Coleman controlling the position.
Coleman on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Coleman tries to get out of the position.
Janssens stops Coleman from standing up.
Janssens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Coleman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Maynard Coleman wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Janssens tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Coleman defends well and Janssens ends up having to push Coleman into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Janssens jumps guard but Coleman stands there with Janssens around his waist. Janssens gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Maynard Coleman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jan Janssens.

Coleman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Coleman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The fight stays on the outside here - Janssens looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Janssens forces Coleman back against the cage and clinches.
Coleman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Janssens walks away with a smile on his face. Coleman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
No luck for Coleman with that takedown attempt.

Coleman takes the fight into the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Janssens.
Janssens tries to break the clinch but Coleman is controlling the position.
A head punch on the inside from Janssens fails to land.
Coleman has Janssens pressed against the cage, preventing Janssens from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Janssens lands a shot to the body.
The referee calls for Janssens to work.

Coleman manages to pull guard.
Janssens looking to sit in guard and control but Coleman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Janssens looking to control.

Janssens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Coleman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Coleman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Coleman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Coleman stays in close to Janssens's body and controls the position.
Janssens wants to hit a switch here but Coleman passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Janssens there!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Coleman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Janssens fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Coleman gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Coleman is trying to trip Janssens. He has hold of a leg but Janssens is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Coleman persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Coleman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Janssens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Coleman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Coleman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Coleman stands up over Janssens, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Janssens is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Coleman is controlling him.
Janssens can't keep his opponent in guard - Coleman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Coleman slows the pace down in half guard.
Coleman tries to pass to full mount but Janssens defends it.
Coleman wants to stand but Janssens has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Janssens is trying to stand back up but Coleman is controlling him
Coleman is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Coleman stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Janssens to get to his feet.
Coleman fails with the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Janssens leaves Coleman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Janssens works Coleman's body with a nice hook.
Janssens rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Coleman moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Coleman avoids the body shot from Janssens.

Coleman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Janssens to the mat! Janssens manages to get full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Janssens looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Janssens is breathing heavily.

Janssens wants to stand but Coleman is controlling the position.
Coleman wants to stand but Janssens has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Coleman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Coleman tries to free his leg and advance position but Janssens is retaining full guard.
Coleman stays in close to Janssens's body and controls the position.
Coleman lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Coleman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Janssens thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Coleman chips away with some ground and pound.
Coleman stopping the sweep attempt from Janssens.
Coleman is looking to stand up but Janssens won't let him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Janssens can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Coleman controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maynard Coleman dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Coleman takes the fight into the clinch.
Janssens wants a takedown.
Janssens is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Janssens's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Janssens cracks Coleman with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Janssens gets caught napping as Coleman dives in and scores a takedown. Janssens manages to retain guard.
Janssens lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Coleman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Janssens wants to stand but Coleman is controlling the position.

Maynard Coleman has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Janssens closes the distance looking to clinch

and Coleman moves into the clinch.
Coleman looking for a takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Janssens is trying to force a seperation but Coleman has the dominant position.
Janssens is trying to break the clinch but Coleman is controlling him.

Coleman gets control of Janssens's arms and successfully pulls guard. Coleman will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Coleman throws his legs up looking for a submission but Janssens uses it to pass to side control.
Coleman tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Janssens presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Janssens wanted to stand there but Coleman had control of the position.
Janssens wants to pass the guard but Coleman is keeping the position.

Janssens working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Coleman looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jan Janssens wasn't active enough on the ground.

Coleman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Coleman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jan Janssens has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Janssens takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Coleman stands up and beckons Janssens to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Maynard Coleman showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Coleman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
