PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Denis Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taran Zu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Taran Zu will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Denis Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Taran Zu!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burns throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Zu was covering up waiting for the punch and Burns finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Zu is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Burns controls from within his opponent's guard.
Zu controls Burns momentarily but Burns frees himself.
Burns working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Zu's head.
Burns tries to stand but Zu is controlling from the bottom.
Burns controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Zu wants to slow Burns down by chopping away at his legs.
A bone on bone clash there as Burns blocks the leg kick.
Burns throws a sloppy head kick and Zu moves out of range easily.
Zu shoots and misses

and Burns counters by moving into the clinch.
Burns is trying to force a seperation but Zu has the dominant position.
Burns stalling.
Burns gets underhooks to prevent Zu's takedown attempt.

Burns turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Burns manages to end up in side control.
Burns moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Burns is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Zu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Zu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Burns. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burns is staying tight to Zu's torso, preventing him from escaping.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Burns wants to stand but Zu has his arm trapped.
A control attempt from Zu but he's now mounted!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burns controlling the pace for now.
Zu bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Burns bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zu's guard.
Zu looks winded!
Burns landing some decent shots from guard.
Burns trying to stand up but can't free himself from Zu's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burns slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Burns is looking to stand up but Zu won't let him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burns works over Zu with some ground and pound from guard.
Burns passes Zu's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Burns drops an elbow to the side of Zu's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denis Burns dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Zu shoots in for a takedown but Burns shows good takedown defense.

Burns gets a double leg takedown into Zu's guard.
Zu looking to control.
Burns is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Burns shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Burns is pushing down on Zu's leg trying to pass to half guard. Zu is fighting to maintain full guard but Burns has managed to sneak the leg through.
Zu is breathing heavily.
Zu is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burns with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Burns has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Burns content just to control the position here.
Burns lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Zu is in a horrible position here. Burns smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Burns has isolated one of Zu's arms. Zu looking to fight him off but Burns twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
