PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kevin McLeary (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. It's Goin Down by T.C. kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin McLeary!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joshua Perez!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez needs to keep his hands up - McLeary had a free shot at his head there.
McLeary misses with an uppercut. Perez saw that one coming.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Perez has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Perez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on McLeary. That did some damage!
The fight stays on the outside here - Perez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Perez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
McLeary has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Perez.

Perez moves into the clinch successfully.
Perez blocks an uppercut.
Perez lands a hook that snaps the head of McLeary backwards.
Perez tries for a takedown. No joy.
Perez throws a punch but it's blocked by McLeary.
Perez tries to stall but McLeary uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Perez content to slow the pace in the clinch.
McLeary avoids a wild elbow strike from Perez.
Perez creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

McLeary is looking to break free of the clinch but Perez has double underhooks.
Perez jumps guard but McLeary stands there with Perez around his waist. Perez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Perez wants to take the fight to the mat but McLeary manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Kevin McLeary has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joshua Perez.

Perez is trying to pull guard but McLeary turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Perez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

McLeary blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
McLeary wants to stand but Perez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

McLeary gets to his feet. Perez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
McLeary is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Perez.
McLeary looks to score with a jab to the body but Perez is just out of range.

McLeary avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Perez waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract McLeary.
Perez fails with an attempt to clinch.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as McLeary checks a leg kick.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Perez - that will leave a mark!

Perez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McLeary manages to avoid it.

Joshua Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and McLeary counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Perez moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
McLeary moves out of range of the strikes.
Perez wants to slow McLeary down by chopping away at his legs.
A solid leg kick lands there for Perez.
McLeary connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
McLeary tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Perez was well out of range. Poor timing from McLeary.

and McLeary counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Perez fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and McLeary has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Perez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. McLeary looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Perez throws a right and a left that McLeary avoids nicely.

Perez takes the fight into the clinch.
Perez is still on wobbly legs! Can McLeary finish him?
McLeary lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Perez backwards.

McLeary's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McLeary throws an overhand right that drops Perez like a sack of potatoes! McLeary dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
