PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bradford Whitley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Rizal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rizal has chosen Diamonds as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bradford Whitley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Rizal!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whitley moves into the clinch.

Whitley manages to break the clinch.

and Rizal counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rizal is defended easily by Whitley.
Bradford Whitley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Whitley lands with a kick to the temple. Rizal shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Jose Rizal has been cut.
Rizal shoots in and drives through. Whitley sprawls well.

Rizal shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Whitley manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Rizal drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Whitley dives on top into guard.
Rizal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Whitley's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rizal has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Whitley is proving hard to escape from.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Whitley manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Rizal is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Whitley to keep the fight standing.
Bradford Whitley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Rizal.

Horrible takedown by Rizal or perhaps it was just good defense by Whitley which made him look bad.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Whitley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rizal moves in looking to clinch but Whitley pushes him off.

Whitley clinches up with Rizal and pushes him back against the cage.
Whitley presses Rizal against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Whitley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Whitley takes a swing at Rizal's ribcage but misses.
Whitley leaves Rizal with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
