PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John McLachlan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chrystov Aleksey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McLachlan comes to the cage accompanied by Funeral For a Friend - 'History'. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John McLachlan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chrystov Aleksey!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McLachlan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Aleksey throws a shot to the body.
McLachlan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Aleksey swinging wildly here.
Sloppy strikes from Aleksey. Those never looked like landing.
McLachlan looks to land a right hand but Aleksey moved out of range.
Aleksey shoots in for a double leg but McLachlan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

McLachlan shoots in looking for a takedown. Aleksey tries to sprawl out of it but McLachlan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Aleksey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

McLachlan goes for a double leg but Aleksey avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Aleksey continues to drive forward.

The referee is keeping an eye on Aleksey - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Aleksey breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
McLachlan lands with a nice combination. Aleksey backs away looking to recover.

McLachlan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Aleksey is not content to let McLachlan control the position.
McLachlan works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Aleksey avoids any damage from the ground and pound of McLachlan.

McLachlan prevents Aleksey from escaping the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Check out the look on McLachlan's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
McLachlan tries to score with some ground and pound. Aleksey controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
McLachlan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Aleksey down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McLachlan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

John McLachlan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McLachlan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Aleksey is trying to buck McLachlan off.
McLachlan moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

McLachlan tries to score with some ground and pound. Aleksey controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Aleksey is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McLachlan asserts his dominance and retains side control.
McLachlan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
McLachlan advances nicely into full mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

McLachlan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

No joy there for Aleksey, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McLachlan throws out a loose jab but Aleksey uses good head movement to avoid it.

McLachlan has Aleksey pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Aleksey manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Aleksey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Aleksey looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Chrystov Aleksey comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think McLachlan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
