PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Wigley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Pie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Wigley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Pie!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Glass and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Pie, as that shot connected.
Pie goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Pie!
Wigley misses with a wild body shot.
Wigley tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pie was well out of range. Poor timing from Wigley.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No joy there for Pie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
The crowd cheers as Pie lands an impressive looking overhand right. Wigley doesn't seem phased though.
Pie scores with a nice head shot.
Some wild striking there from Pie.
Pie closes the distance and clinches up with Wigley, looking for a takedown. Pie pushes Wigley against the cage but Wigley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wigley misses the shot to the body.
Pie throws a lazy right hand but Wigley sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Pie misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Pie misses with a series of wild punches.
Wigley dodges the punch combination from Pie.

Wigley closes the distance and clinches.

Pie wants to break the clinch but can't.

Wigley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pie looks to land a combination but Wigley avoids it well.
Pie dives in and grabs Wigley's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wigley pushes down on Pie's head and hops out.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pie.
Jack Wigley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Pie.
A jab from Pie finds it's way through Wigley's defenses.
Pie wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Pie tries to break the clinch but Wigley is controlling the position.

Pie wants to break free but Wigley has control.
Our sources have told us that Wigley has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Wigley tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Pie has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wigley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Pie is looking to break free of the clinch but Wigley has double underhooks.

Wigley jumps into guard, dragging Pie to the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wigley looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pie is one step ahead there.
Wigley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Pie wants to control from the top but Wigley keeps moving.
Pie might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wigley haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Paul Pie wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jab, jab by Pie - just one landing.
Wigley connects with a leg kick. Pie looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
A slow jab from Pie misses its intended target.

Wigley shoots in looking for a takedown. Pie tries to sprawl out of it but Wigley keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pie manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Wigley closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Pie cracks a nice hook into Wigley's ribs.
We've been informed that Pie has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Pie throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wigley.
Pie moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wigley moves forwards but Pie connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Nice jab there from Pie.
The fighters circle momentarily. Pie darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Nice sprawl there from Wigley as Pie shoots in.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wigley takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


Wigley is rocked!
Pie fails with the takedown.
Oh Wigley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pie scores with a nice right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Pie dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Pie lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Pie.
Wigley seems to have got his legs back now.
Pie connects with a nice looking jab.
Pie moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Pie keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Pie lands a big uppercut and Wigley crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Wigley looks OK. Pie waves Wigley back to his feet!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Some wild striking there from Pie.
Pie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wigley tries to avoid it but Pie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wigley to the ground. Wigley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pie lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Pie throws a right and a left that both miss.

Wigley closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Wigley keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Pie's efforts to push away.
Wigley tries to pull guard but Pie forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wigley has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pie is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Wigley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wigley keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Pie's efforts to push away.
Wigley misses with a hook to the ribs.

Wigley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pie lands with an uppercut that bounces Wigley off the cage and back into range.
Wigley looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Pie shoots in looking for a takedown but Wigley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Pie shoots in for a double leg but Wigley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Wigley slips a jab and a cross from Pie.
Wigley shoots in but Pie avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Pie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wigley manages to avoid it.
Pie has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wigley is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Pie.
Pie scores with a three punch combo!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wigley jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pie walks away with a smile on his face. Wigley gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Wigley shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pie as he avoids it easily.
Pie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wigley swivels and escapes.
Paul Pie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pie throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wigley.
A lazy left from Pie finds it's target.
Nice takedown defense from Wigley. No joy for Pie on that attempt.

Pie lands a jab to the nose.
Pie chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Wigley can pounce on him.
Pie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wigley is fending him off so far but Pie persists. Nope, Wigley circles away and we're back to standing.

Paul Pie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Pie looks to land a left hand but Wigley moved out of range nicely.

Wigley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pie tries to avoid it but Wigley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pie to the ground. Pie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pie might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Wigley fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pie avoids it really well and circles away.

Wigley doesn't manage to clinch there - Pie circles away.
Pie lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wigley circles away quickly and effectively.
Pie throws a nice looking combination but Wigley bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jack Wigley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pie rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wigley moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Wigley darts in and clinches Pie up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Pie's face as he tries to break the clinch.

The fight stays on the outside here - Wigley looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Wigley's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Wigley ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wigley no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Wigley pulls Pie in close to his closed guard and prevents Pie from doing any damage or advancing position.
Pie trying to control but Wigley is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wigley darts in looking for a takedown but Pie gets double underhooks and turns Wigley into the cage.
Pie is trying to push Wigley away but Wigley has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Pie tries to break the clinch but Wigley is controlling the position.
Jack Wigley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Wigley decides to pull guard.
Pie wants to pass the guard but Wigley is keeping the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pie is still trying to improve position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Pie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pie winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
