PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Djadjo Cigan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Project Abc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cigan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is DJ Valentino. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Project Abc!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abc misses with a head kick.
Cigan shoots in for a takedown but Abc shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cigan tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Abc counters by clinching up.
Cigan landing knees to the body.
Abc avoids the elbow strike from Cigan, against the cage.
Abc tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Abc blocks a body shot from Cigan.
Abc jumps guard but Cigan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Abc is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cigan to keep the fight standing.

Abc tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cigan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Abc has hold of one of Cigan's legs. Cigan is fighting the takedown attempt but Abc gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cigan wants to get back to his feet but Abc is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cigan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abc doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Abc manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Cigan wants to stand but Abc is controlling the position.
Abc really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cigan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Abc avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Abc must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Abc is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Abc got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cigan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Abc has managed to get both his arms back between Cigan's legs - danger averted.

Abc gets to his feet. Cigan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Abc counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Abc fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cigan closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Abc throws the kick towards the body but Cigan avoids it.
Abc shoots for a takedown but Cigan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Abc circles away from the clinch attempt
and Abc counters with a three punch combo that has Cigan backing up. Cigan nods at Abc to acknowledge the strikes.

Abc darts in and clinches Cigan up against the cage.
Abc goes for a takedown in the clinch but Cigan prevents it.
Abc on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Abc content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Cigan has had enough of the clinch but Abc keeps him there for the moment.

Abc ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Abc no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cigan with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Abc can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cigan connects with a couple of short punches.
Abc has Cigan pulled in close to control his posture.
Cigan stops Abc from standing up.
Cigan postures up in Abc's guard and throws a big left but Abc blocks it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cigan has Abc pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Abc manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Abc tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cigan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Cigan lands a couple of elbows.
Cigan with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Cigan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Abc defends it easily.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Abc in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that Abc has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Project Abc comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Abc has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
