The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Pitts looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Diesel dives in and scores a takedown into Pitts's guard.
Diesel stands up over Pitts, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Pitts is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pitts wants to stand but Diesel is controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shaq Diesel was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Diesel bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pitts is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Pitts wants to control but Diesel postures up.
Diesel looks up at the clock and then as Pitts takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Diesel smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Pitts is not content to let Diesel control the position.

Pitts is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Diesel asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Pitts is not content to let Diesel control the position.
Pitts is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Diesel has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Pitts is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Diesel's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Diesel is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Diesel's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pitts is staying active underneath Diesel, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Shaq Diesel has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Diesel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Diesel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Pitts's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Diesel closes the distance looking for a takedown. Pitts stuffs it but Diesel still has hold of him. Diesel picks Pitts up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Diesel slams Pitts to the floor and that's really hurt Pitts - he doesn't know where he is! Diesel throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
