Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cole Mcdonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Pettis misses.

Mcdonald shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pettis is trying to defend but Mcdonald finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mcdonald tries to stand but can't do so whilst Pettis controls his leg.
Mcdonald prevents Pettis from improving his position.

Mcdonald stands up and beckons Pettis to join him on the feet.
Mcdonald throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mcdonald misses with a body punch
letting Pettis counter with a right hand.

Mcdonald just misses with a punch to the body.
Pettis displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.


Mcdonald is rocked!


It looks like Cole Mcdonald has been cut.
Mcdonald misses with the body kick
and Pettis counters with a right hand to the body.
Oh Mcdonald is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A punch combination from Pettis misses.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown but Mcdonald shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Mcdonald counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mcdonald seems to have got his legs back now.

Mcdonald throwing strikes from guard but Pettis blocks nicely.
Mcdonald stays in close to Pettis's body and controls the position.

Mcdonald seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pettis for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cole Mcdonald wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Mcdonald fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pettis to the ground. Mcdonald is now in Pettis's guard.
Pettis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcdonald. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mcdonald decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pettis, up you get!

Mcdonald gets the takedown into side control.

Mcdonald decides to stand back up. Mcdonald steps back and let's Pettis get back to his feet.

Pettis takes the fight into the clinch.
Pettis managing to block the knees to the body from Mcdonald.
Mcdonald misses with an elbow strike.
Mcdonald looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Mcdonald stalls.
Pettis on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Pettis dodges an elbow strike from Mcdonald.
Pettis jumps guard but Mcdonald turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Cole Mcdonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pettis.

Pettis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pettis moves in looking to clinch but Mcdonald pushes him off.
Mcdonald tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A head kick misses from Mcdonald.
Pettis with a lazy takedown attempt

and Mcdonald counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Mcdonald tries to stand but can't do so whilst Pettis controls his leg.
Mcdonald works his way into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mcdonald has hold of Pettis's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Pettis tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mcdonald cranks the arm and Pettis screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Pettis, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Cole Mcdonald!
