Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mannix McGuiness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmer Octopulus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think McGuiness might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bare in the Basin - Gaelic Storm. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jimmer Octopulus was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimmer Octopulus!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGuiness shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Octopulus connects with a body shot that sends McGuiness's belly button to the back.
Both fighters circling a little - Octopulus finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Octopulus gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
McGuiness stops Octopulus from standing up.
McGuiness looking to sit in guard and control but Octopulus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Octopulus advances to half guard.
McGuiness is looking to escape.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Octopulus throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Octopulus in particular looking to stall.
Octopulus has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We've been hearing good reports from McGuiness's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Octopulus seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Octopulus looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McGuiness with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Octopulus lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Octopulus seems to be working for a kimura but McGuiness defends the submission attempt.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McGuiness fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Octopulus throws a quick inside leg kick.
McGuiness fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Octopulus avoids it really well and circles away.
Octopulus lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McGuiness circles away quickly and effectively.

Jimmer Octopulus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Octopulus drops McGuiness with a straight right hand, right on the button! Octopulus follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
