PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Schindler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rhys Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rhys Evans told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Kurt Schindler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Rhys Evans!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans fails with an attempt to clinch.
Evans misses with a double jab.
Schindler connects with a high kick.
Evans throws a right hand that Schindler ducks under and follows up with a left that Schindler also avoids with ease.
Schindler throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Evans fails in his attempt to clinch.
Evans is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Schindler swats away the attempt to clinch by Evans.
Schindler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Evans misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Evans throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Schindler was covering up waiting for the punch and Evans finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Evans drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Schindler manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Evans has Schindler in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Evans is doing well to control the position and prevent Schindler from advancing to side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schindler lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Evans is staying active underneath Schindler, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Evans lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Schindler circles away quickly and effectively.

Horrible takedown by Evans or perhaps it was just good defense by Schindler which made him look bad.
Evans dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Evans does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Schindler shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Evans is trying to defend but Schindler finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That was a close round but I would say that Kurt Schindler will probably get the nod.

Evans fails in his attempt to clinch.

Schindler avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Evans feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Schindler's calf.

Rhys Evans has got the better of the ground game so far.
Evans is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Evans steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Schindler. That one must have hurt.
No joy there for Evans, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Schindler dodges the punch combination from Evans.

Evans closes the distance and clinches.
Evans is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Schindler tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Evans avoids it.

Schindler changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Evans looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
