PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Weidman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Kamikaze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weidman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Climb-Miley Cyrus. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Kamikaze was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Weidman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Kamikaze!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weidman is looking to clinch but Kamikaze is avoiding it.
Weidman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kamikaze avoids it really well and circles away.
Weidman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kamikaze paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A head kick from Weidman lands but Kamikaze takes it in his stride.


It looks like John Kamikaze has been cut.

Kamikaze shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Weidman is trying to control but can't.
Kamikaze really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Weidman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are battling for position here. Weidman manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Weidman is breathing heavily.
Weidman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kamikaze controls the pace.
Weidman seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Kamikaze must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kamikaze wants to get up but he can't break Weidman's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Kamikaze should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kamikaze is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Kamikaze hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Weidman controls Kamikaze momentarily but Kamikaze frees himself.

Weidman lands with a slapping head kick.

Kamikaze shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Weidman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Kamikaze slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kamikaze shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kamikaze was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kamikaze bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Weidman is looking for a sweep.

Kamikaze tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kamikaze has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kamikaze gets to mount! Weidman was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Weidman is bucking up trying to escape but Kamikaze cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Weidman is in a horrible position here. Kamikaze smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

John Kamikaze showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Kamikaze ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Weidman is defended easily by Kamikaze.

Kamikaze tries to stand and escape but Weidman is controlling the position.
Weidman is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kamikaze's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kamikaze's back!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Weidman has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Kamikaze.
Kamikaze has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Weidman.
Chris Weidman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Kamikaze is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
