PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Toni Manel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winston Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manel comes to the cage accompanied by A Portuguesa. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Toni Manel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Winston Cole!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cole circles away.
Manel has a takedown stuffed.
Manel shoots in but Cole avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Toni Manel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cole cracks the inside of Manel's front leg.
Manel fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cole enables Manel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cole manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Manel throws a strike but Cole rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Manel seems keen to control Cole's posture.
Manel wants to improve his position but instead Cole has moved into half guard.
Manel is doing well to control the position and prevent Cole from advancing to side control.
Cole wants to stand up but Manel has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Manel is trying to maintain the position but Cole is very close to passing his half guard.

Cole content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Winston Cole has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Manel moves out of range of the leg kick from Cole.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Manel crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Cole - the referee stops the clock and Manel gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Cole. Manel manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Manel closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cole's guard.
Manel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cole swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cole is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Manel wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Manel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Manel won't allow Cole to sweep him here.
We've been hearing that Manel has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Manel lands a couple of digs.
Manel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Manel with a flurry of punches that miss.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Manel is looking to work some ground and pound but Cole has wrist control.
Manel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Cole has momentary wrist control but Manel slips an elbow through the middle.
Cole has his hands on Manel's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cole manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Manel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cole is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Manel stands up over Cole, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Manel here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Cole is rocked!

It looks like Winston Cole has been cut.

Manel stands up over Cole, holding on to his feet. Manel throws the legs to one side and dives in with a huge shot that lands flush on the chin! Cole is out cold! Manel lands a couple more shots and the ref tackles him out of the way! What a brutal finish!
