PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sao Marcos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phreak Nakkan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nakkan has chosen Voodoo as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Sao Marcos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Phreak Nakkan!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nakkan turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Nakkan dodges the punch combination from Marcos.
Marcos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nakkan fails with a takedown attempt.
Nakkan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Marcos throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A knee to the head by Nakkan.

Nakkan is trying to trip Marcos. He has hold of a leg but Marcos is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Nakkan persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Marcos's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Nakkan postures up.
Nakkan controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Marcos controls Nakkan momentarily but Nakkan frees himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nakkan wants to stand but Marcos has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Marcos working for submissions but it's allowed Nakkan to get to half guard.
Marcos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nakkan is working away from the top position though.
Marcos is looking to improve his position.
Nakkan stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nakkan throwing shots but Marcos is blocking nicely.
Nakkan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Marcos tries to kick Nakkan off but Nakkan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Marcos might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Nakkan not doing much here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Marcos fails to land the takedown.
Marcos goes for a double leg but Nakkan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Nakkan continues to drive forward.
Nakkan pushes Marcos back against the ropes and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Nakkan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Marcos fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Nakkan to the ground. Marcos is now in Nakkan's guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nakkan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Nakkan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Marcos manages to get himself to full guard.
Nakkan postures up.
Marcos keeping moving, preventing Nakkan from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nakkan prevents Marcos from getting back to his feet.
Nakkan advances to half guard.
Nakkan with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Marcos wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nakkan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Nakkan wants to control but Marcos is keeping him busy.
Nakkan not doing much here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Phreak Nakkan wasn't active enough on the ground.
Nakkan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marcos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nakkan somewhat.
Nakkan connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nakkan moves into the clinch successfully.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Nakkan turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phreak Nakkan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Marcos takes the fight into the clinch.
Nakkan is working for takedown but Marcos is calmly controlling the position for now.
Nice elbow from Nakkan.
Nakkan lands a body shot.
Marcos tries to break the clinch but Nakkan is controlling the position.
Nakkan stalling.
Marcos has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Nakkan successfully pulls guard.
Nakkan keeping moving, preventing Marcos from controlling successfully.
Marcos is really struggling to control Nakkan but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Marcos is looking to work some ground and pound but Nakkan has wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marcos wants to control from the top but Nakkan keeps moving.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Marcos is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nakkan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sao Marcos.
Nakkan tries to clinch but Marcos is having none of it.
Nakkan takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Nice sprawl there from Marcos as Nakkan shoots in.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Marcos shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Nakkan eats them both and turns towards Marcos to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Nakkan blocks a jab.
Marcos fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nakkan connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marcos closes the distance looking to clinch
and Nakkan counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Nakkan leaves Marcos with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sao Marcos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Marcos gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Nakkan to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Nakkan content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Nakkan trying to control the position from guard on top but Marcos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nakkan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Marcos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nakkan is controlling him.
Marcos keeping moving, preventing Nakkan from controlling successfully.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Marcos can't keep his opponent in guard - Nakkan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Nakkan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marcos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Marcos is looking to control Nakkan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Marcos avoid being mounted?

Nakkan is trying to control the action in half guard but Marcos is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Nakkan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Phreak Nakkan hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Marcos throws a lazy head kick

and Nakkan counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Nakkan.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Marcos isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Nakkan stacks Marcos on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Nakkan!
Marcos is letting Nakkan control him for a moment.
Marcos is trying to buck Nakkan off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phreak Nakkan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Marcos stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Marcos wants it to stay on the feet.
Marcos looks to land a combination but Nakkan avoids it well.
Marcos throws a right and a left that Nakkan avoids nicely.
Marcos tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nakkan swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Marcos gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Nakkan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Nakkan gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Nakkan lands a couple of elbows.
Nakkan throwing strikes from guard but Marcos blocks nicely.

Nakkan passes Marcos's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Nakkan wants to control but Marcos is keeping him busy.

Marcos kicks Nakkan off and gets back to his feet.
No luck for Nakkan with that takedown attempt.
Nakkan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nakkan moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Marcos has his takedown stuffed

and Nakkan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Marcos escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nakkan misses with a takedown attempt - Marcos sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sao Marcos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phreak Nakkan.

Marcos shoots in looking for a takedown but Nakkan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Marcos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Marcos misses with the combination.
Nakkan avoids the body shot from Marcos.

Nakkan has closed the distance and engaged Marcos in a clinch.

Nakkan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Marcos stuffs the takedown.
No luck for Nakkan with that takedown attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Danga de danga de dang - Marcos scores with a four punch combination!
Nakkan moves out of range of the body kick.
Sao Marcos is winning the standup battle so far.
Marcos pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Nakkan back to the ropes. Marcos follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nakkan darts in looking for a takedown but Marcos gets double underhooks and turns Nakkan into the ropes.
Marcos wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nakkan has him pressed against the ropes.

Marcos is trying to trip Nakkan. He has hold of a leg but Nakkan is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Marcos persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Marcos has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nakkan is proving hard to escape from.
Nakkan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Sao Marcos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sao Marcos.
I think Nakkan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
