PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Oconner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicky Pesci (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David Oconner looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Oconner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nicky Pesci!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Lou da Vinci and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pesci drives through with a takedown into Oconner's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Oconner keeping full guard, as Pesci tries to pass.
Pesci engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Oconner is trying to control the position but Pesci postures up.
Pesci sitting in guard, not really doing much.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Nicky Pesci hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Both fighters circling a little - Oconner finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pesci walks forward, straight into a front kick from Oconner.
Pesci avoids the head kick by Oconner.
Pesci tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Oconner defends well and Pesci ends up having to push Oconner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Pesci pushes off an throws an elbow but Oconner leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Pesci gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Pesci with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Pesci has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Oconner looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Oconner is pressing down on Pesci's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Oconner can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pesci controls the pace.
Pesci postures up in Oconner's guard and throws a big left but Oconner blocks it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nicky Pesci was stalling too much, according to the referee.
A chopping leg kick lands by Oconner.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pesci blocks a head kick by Oconner.
Oconner scores with a kick to the body.

Pesci shoots in and gets a takedown into Oconner's guard.
Pesci postures up in Oconner's guard and throws a big left but Oconner blocks it.
Pesci looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Pesci slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Pesci throwing strikes from guard but Oconner blocks nicely.
Oconner is breathing heavily.

Pesci is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Oconner is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Nicky Pesci.
Oconner throws a head kick that misses.
Pesci steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Oconner. That one must have hurt.
David Oconner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Oconner forces Pesci back against the cage and clinches.

Pesci has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Oconner regains guard immediately.
Pesci is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Pesci stays in close to Oconner's body and controls the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pesci's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Oconner misses with a low kick.
Oconner fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Pesci checks it well.

Pesci shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Oconner tries to get to full guard but Pesci has control of the leg.
Pesci takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Oconner punching from the bottom.

Pesci controlling the action here.

Nicky Pesci has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Oconner tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Pesci is able to avoid easily.

Oconner gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pesci to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Oconner is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pesci pushing down on Oconner's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Pesci seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nicky Pesci has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Oconner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Oconner throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Oconner connects with a solid leg kick.
Pesci checks a leg kick.

Pesci fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Oconner to the ground. Pesci is now in Oconner's guard.
Pesci is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Oconner looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Pesci not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nicky Pesci was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Oconner gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Oconner being controlled here, momentarily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oconner is trying to keep Pesci in close.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pesci throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Oconner works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nicky Pesci showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Pesci decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oconner is trying to get back to full guard.
Oconner misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Pesci stands and throws Oconner's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Pesci is staying tight to Oconner's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Pesci sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Oconner is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Pesci looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Pesci is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Oconner looks calm but he's in trouble here. Pesci gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Oconner is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Pesci lets go of the hold and Oconner can pop his arm back in it's socket.
