PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between JB Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Gainz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, JB Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Max Gainz!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gainz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Bates throws a push kick but Gainz slaps the foot to one side.

Bates scores with a takedown into Gainz's guard.
Bates won't allow Gainz to sweep him here.
Gainz keeps trying to improve his position.
Bates trying to control the position from guard on top but Gainz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gainz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bates tries to free his leg and advance position but Gainz is retaining full guard.
Bates throws a big elbow that misses.
Bates cracks Gainz with a solid left hand.

Bates closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gainz to the mat! Gainz manages to get full guard.

Bates decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gainz, up you get!

Bates goes for a takedown attempt but Gainz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Gainz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bates as he jumps to the side.

Bates is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Gainz holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Bates thows a huge punch but Gainz dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gainz works his way to full guard. Good work.

Gainz is looking for a triangle but Bates pushes his legs off easily.

Bates wants to control from the top but Gainz keeps moving.
Bates working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gainz's head.
Bates is looking to work some ground and pound but Gainz has wrist control.
Gainz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Gainz keeping moving, preventing Bates from controlling successfully.
Bates lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bates has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bates leaves Gainz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Gainz gets caught napping as Bates dives in and scores a takedown. Gainz manages to retain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bates throws a sloppy head kick and Gainz moves out of range easily.
Bates closes the distance and clinches up with Gainz, looking for a takedown. Bates pushes Gainz against the cage but Gainz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gainz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bates but Bates pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gainz lands a jab-cross combination.

Bates closes the distance and pushes Gainz back into the cage.
Gainz has Bates pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bates manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Bates breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gainz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bates avoids it really well and circles away.
JB Bates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Gainz.
Bates wants to clinch up but Gainz keeps it at a distance.
Bates shoots for a double leg takedown but Gainz sprawls well. He's pushed Bates's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gainz misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Bates shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gainz's guard.

Bates stands and steps away. Gainz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Bates fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gainz, pushing him back against the cage.

Gainz tries to sprawl but Bates drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Gainz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bates stands up and beckons Gainz to join him on the feet.

Bates scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gainz doesn't seem bothered though.
Bates lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Gainz shoots in looking for a takedown but Bates manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gainz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bates looks to land a combination. Gainz sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Bates tries to clinch there but Gainz circles away.
A clash of legs there as Gainz blocks the low kick.
Gainz goes for a double leg but Bates avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bates continues to drive forward.

Bates throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gainz was covering up waiting for the punch and Bates finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gainz is looking to regain half guard here but Bates keeps moving and retains side control.

and Bates counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

JB Bates showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Bates has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
