PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Jarvis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Jarvis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ron Wood!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wood moves into the clinch.
Wood holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Jarvis tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Wood breaks the clinch.

Wood moves into the clinch successfully.
Jarvis slowing the pace effectively.
Jarvis keeps control of Wood as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Wood turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Jarvis struggling a bit here.

Wood decides to stand back up. Wood steps back and let's Jarvis get back to his feet.
Jarvis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wood tries to avoid it but Jarvis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wood to the ground. Wood escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wood dives in and scores a takedown into Jarvis's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wood throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jarvis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wood postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wood with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Wood throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Wood looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Wood in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wood throwing strikes from guard but Jarvis blocks nicely.
Wood trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Wood wants to control from the top but Jarvis keeps moving.

Jarvis is working an open guard so Wood takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jarvis tries to sprawl but Wood drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Wood is looking for a kimura here.

Jarvis looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Wood controlling the action here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jarvis wants to improve his position but Wood is controlling well.

Wood is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Wood gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Wood throws a low kick but it's checked well by Jarvis.

Wood throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jarvis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wood is in Jarvis's guard.
Jarvis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wood controls the pace.
Jarvis is trying to keep Wood in close.
Wood slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ron Wood wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jarvis fails to land the takedown.
Jarvis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Wood counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Jarvis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jarvis is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jarvis throws a sloppy body shot
and Wood cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jarvis has his takedown stuffed

and Wood counters by clinching up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Wood is trying to trip Jarvis. He has hold of a leg but Jarvis is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Wood persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Wood controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wood throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jarvis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Wood dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Jarvis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wood working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Wood slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wood trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wood gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jarvis shoots and misses

and Wood counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jarvis preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jarvis wants to sweep but no luck.

Wood decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jarvis, up you get!

Jarvis checks a leg kick.

Wood closes the distance and clinches.

Jarvis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jarvis looks to clinch
and Wood counters with a series of strikes. Jarvis will be more careful next time no doubt.

Wood shoots in and bounces Jarvis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wood engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wood trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Wood throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jarvis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wood has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wood's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ron Wood.
Wood throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jarvis shoots and misses
and Wood counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wood smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Wood throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jarvis on the side of the head.

Wood looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jarvis won't allow Wood to pass to mount.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Wood lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jarvis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wood scores with a couple of nice shots.

Jarvis looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Wood controlling the action here.
Wood missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Wood is looking for a kimura but Jarvis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wood to get the leverage.

Wood is working for a submission of some sort.
Wood has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jarvis pushes Wood off looking to stand but Wood dives back in and keeps control.
Jarvis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wood scores with a couple of nice shots.
Wood is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Wood throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Ron Wood showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Wood drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ron Wood has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jarvis keeping moving, preventing Wood from controlling successfully.
Wood slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Wood decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jarvis, up you get!
Wood fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Jarvis shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Wood throws a head kick that misses.

Wood rushes Jarvis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Jarvis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jarvis shoots in looking for a takedown but Wood manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jarvis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wood looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jarvis wants to control but Wood is keeping busy.

Wood decides to stand and escape the position.
Paul Jarvis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wood closes the distance and pushes Jarvis back into the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Wood's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Wood pulls guard successfully.
Wood controls Jarvis momentarily but Jarvis frees himself.
Wood tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wood throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jarvis wants to pass the guard but Wood is keeping the position.
Wood looking for a sweep. Not yet Wood, not yet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wood pulls Jarvis in close to his closed guard and prevents Jarvis from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wood looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jarvis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Jarvis thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Jarvis wants to pass to mount but Wood is defending the position.
Wood moves into full guard.
Wood keeping moving, preventing Jarvis from controlling successfully.
Wood is pulling down on Jarvis's head to control his posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wood has his foot on Jarvis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jarvis works his way back into a safe position though.
Wood is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jarvis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ron Wood is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jarvis stands up over Wood, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Paul Jarvis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wood manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jarvis manages to get himself to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ron Wood comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wood has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
